The Renaissance of the Green Fairy and The Green Hour

Banned in the early 1920s and after more than 80 years of silence the Green Fairy is back! Aside from alcohol, Absinthe contains a number of different herbal substances. Among these the herb wormwood, known under the name artemisia absinthium, is of major importance.
The effects of real Absinthe can be mood brightening and stimulating. However, Absinthe stands for more than the stimulating effects. Absinthe is culture, Absinthe is lifestyle and Absinthe is history. In the former times of the Belle Epoque many intellectuals and artists confessed their love for the Green Fairy and met for the "Heure Verte", the green hour. Toulouse Lautrec, Gauguin and Van Gough were famous Absintheurs, just to name a few. Step into their footprints and explore the authentic World of Absinthe and the green hour. Traditionally the green hour started at 5pm to7pm, but usually went on all night.
Here at Nicki's Bar & Grill, we will be serving Absinthe the way it was originally served. Ice cold water dripped slowly from an Absinthe fountain, onto a sugar cube. Held by an intricate slotted spoon. The sugar cube is slowly melted and mixed with the water and Absinthe to create a pale green cloudiness or la louche pronounced “loosh”. Sipped on while talking among others creates a great social hour. For those of you who are cocktail drinkers, we have prepared a menu of cocktails that include Absinthe. Please enjoy the Green Hour. Our green hour starts at 6pm till 8pm. This is when we serve up a few specials, but Absinthe will be served open till close. Don't be surprised if you stay later than expected. Time for a new ritual in your life. Enjoy
